But we already know this because otherwise how would we ever have any idea of how to begin building an intelligence? Damn, sure makes you feel like Tsar Bomba is cooking off in your head. We rely wholly on that prior knowledge or our current experience. We live, we make choices, learn, try to pass on the important parts to future generations, and we die. We’re all just single steps in the training of our collective intelligence that runs off of last generations checkpoint. We’re not all that unlike the machines we build if we look at how we interact with the rest of the world at scale. I recall a Wired Oped published a while ago by someone who’s name I’m ashamed to have forgotten who described “the singularity” as a swarm rather than a singular conscience. It’s humbling to say the least when I find myself up at way too far past late scouring the Internet for information, struggling to develop just an inkling of understanding of it all. That sounds like a perfect day in the marketing world, with cute puppies. This is definitely a new pinnacle of open information success. At the end of the story the brand is left looking like they understand what I call "Harry Potter Magic" and the customer has his or her problem solved when she wasn't really sure that solution was even possible. The brand picks up the issue and dedicates time and energy to solve it in hopes that the brand can make the day of that customer. The customer in this case off-handedly mentions an issue he or she is having and goes about their day. ![]() Again if he had stopped them before the trick was over, he would have missed out on the magic. Instantly the warmth from the sun and the texture of the sand takes Bob directly to Hawaii and shows him that the two puppies might understand him better than most people. So when they are done, there are two perfect piles of sand on covering the bare feet of Bob who just got home from work. When the two puppies start shaking sand all over Bob is taken aback but he loves and trusts them so he doesn't stop them and lets them do them. ![]() Third lesson - Customer trust gives you the latitude to get crazy. If there was a dog manager who was screaming at them the first time the messed it up, they wouldn't have landed on the answer. The puppies fail for 13 minutes of the 22-minute episode until they finally land on the answer. Second lesson - Solving problems requires the space to fail. How many times do your customers feel like they aren't heard but you could surprise them by proving you were listening to them the entire time - because you actually were. Where they land is they will bring sand back to the house and when Bob comes home - they will shake and all the sand will land on his feet.įirst lesson - Bob has no idea that the dogs have heard him and they will surprise him with exactly what he needs when he needs it. The puppies need to use collaboration and creative problem-solving in order to fill this need. Bingo and Rolly decide they will go to Hawaii and figure out how to bring sand back for Bob by the time he gets back from work. In the episode, Bob wakes up and tells the puppies that he would love to feel the sand on his feet from Hawaii but he cannot afford to take that trip, he smiles and is out the door to his job. ![]() The point of every episode is that their owner Bob (who works at a pet store) is on his way out the door for work but cannot wait to get back to play with the puppies, as every episode starts Bob will speak to the dogs assuming they have no idea what he is saying and the dogs hear his need and spend the rest of the episode on "an adventure" to solve his problem. Bingo and Rolly are the two puppies who star in the show. He introduced me to a show called "Puppy Dog Pals" created by Harland Williams, the premise of the show caught me in an interesting way. My 4-year old grabs me after work and says "Dad, do you want to watch this show with me?" ![]()
